For better or worse, we have news to report from the Commissioner of the NHL, Gary Bettman, as you could see Detroit Red Wings superstars Lucas Raymond and Dylan Larkin to take to Little Caesar's Arena that much sooner as they work to start the season earlier.
Detroit Red Wings fans should love the latest news from the NHL and Commissioner Gary Bettman. According to recent reports, the league is looking to start the regular NHL season sooner in 2026.
According to NHL Insider John Shannon, the league is looking to start the season a week earlier when the league begins an 84-game season.
"I think the NHL season will start a week sooner at some point; I do think when they get to 84.. we're gonna be talking about October 1st."
- John Shannon
Which, honestly, should be welcome news for us all, as a sooner start means an earlier finish in the playoffs and the Stanley Cup finals.
Fans and Pundits alike should be celebrating the news. This is a positive step forward for the league itself, but the obstacle to a finish to the season in May remains out of our reach, it seems.
For now, we'll have to continue to keep our ears on the ground, as more news could develop as the NHL may yet make another smart decision.
Atypical for the Bettman regime, if we're going to be honest.
But more hockey sooner, sounds like a win for
Red Wings fans, as we could see prospects and stars in Little Caesar's Arena that much sooner.
The Red Wings will take to the ice in 2025-26 with Todd McLellan leading the team with an eye towards the future.
