NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman was interviewed prior to the Red Wings' Stadium Series game and spoke about the potential of the NHL All-Star game coming to Detroit.
The Detroit Red Wings have called Little Caesars Arena home since 2017, and yet the National Hockey League has yet to host an All-Star Game or a Draft in the venue.
It's a highly unusual circumstance that neither event has been held at Little Caesars Arena yet considering it houses an historic Original 6 team along with being still a new state of the art venue.
Sure, Little Caesars Arena is a great facility. I love what the Ilitch's are doing in downtown Detroit, and at some point we've got to get there, and it's something we're working on.
I know some construction is still going on, but Detroit is always ready, Detroit is a great city. We haven't figured on the years, and in light of the success that we've had in the 4 Nations, we're looking at the formatting of what we're doing with All Star (games) anyway. There's a lot at play, but Detroit is on my mind.
Prior to the very 1st game at Little Caesars Arena in October 2017, Bettman was asked a similar question about the NHL All-Star Game coming to Detroit.
I'd like to see the District finished. So that when we bring guests in from all over the world, they can see what the entire vision was and how it's played out.
To this day, not a single restaurant, bar, (new) hotel, retail store, or housing project as part of the promised District Detroit that came in return for receiving hundreds of millions of dollars in tax subsidies to build Little Caesars Arena has been completed.
