New insight reveals a trade is merely moments away from erupting that involve the Calgary Flames' Rasmus Andersson, and the Detroit Red Wings are speculated to be front-runners.

It is no secret that Calgary Flames defenseman, Rasmus Andersson is a top trade target for several teams this upcoming deadline.
Andersson, who is in the last year of his six-year, $4.55 million average annual value (AAV) contract, is expected to become an Unrestricted Free Agent (UFA) at the end of the 2025/26 NHL season.
However, according to well-known NHL insider Elliotte Friedman, this target is speculated to be dealt sooner than fans anticipated.

Elliotte Friedman reveals Calgary Flames' Rasmus Andersson is speculated to be traded before the 2026 Winter Olympics

On Friedman's most recent appearance on The Fan Hockey Show, he addressed Andersson's longevity in Calgary.
He would go on to reveal that he, as well as the Flames, is seeking a resolution prior to the 2026 Winter Olympics break.
Take a look:
"Friedman says he's heard there is increased chatter in Calgary with Rasmus Andersson. Both parties would like this done before the Olympics."
With that being said, the Detroit Red Wings appear to be front-runners in acquiring this talent.

Calgary Flames' Rasmus Andersson set to land in Detroit under one specific condition

While it is evident that the Red Wings have become a landing destination for Andersson, Elliotte Friedman revealed that there is one specific condition that could either make or break this trade.
On the latest 32 Thoughts podcast, Friedman spoke about Detroit potentially going after Andersson; however, he believes that general manager Steve Yzerman may not be willing to pay big for this talent unless a contract extension is worked out.
"The one thing about [a trade between Detroit and Calgary] is what we talked about with Quinn Hughes. Hughes wanted to go to the Red Wings; they were one of the teams he was very interested in.

But Steve Yzerman wouldn't do that without an extension. I would have to think that Detroit would have to know what Andersson would sign for before they would do that."
Do you think the Detroit Red Wings will be able to pull off a trade with the Calgary Flames to acquire their highly talented defenseman, Rasmus Andersson?
While it is unclear at this time, Red Wings fans are extremely hopeful.
