Even at 36, Perron had a strong season with the Detroit Red Wings by scoring 17 goals and 47 points in 76 games. His ability is that he consistently produce offensively and that would provide a needed secondary scoring for the Bruins.
Perron also brings a lot of physical play to his game with 111 hits last season, fitting well with the Bruins gritty style of play. His polyvalence is another asset in his arsenal as he can play on either side of the wing and he can fit into the second or third line which is giving the Bruins flexibility in their line combinations. His playmaking skills would be a valuable addition to the power play, potentially improving its efficacity.
Beyond his on-ice contributions, Perron offers strong leadership and a really good playoff experience including a Stanley Cup win with the St. Louis Blues in 2019. His presence in the locker room would be very valuable for mentoring younger players and putting a winning mentality.
Because of his age, Perron might be open to a short-term deal with a new team so this is making him a cost-effective option for the Bruins. If he hits the UFA market, the Bruins should pursue him to get better in their middle-six forwards, helping their power play at the same time and add a veteran presence in the locker room.
