Red Wings assess options after taking an ultimate loss in Draft Lottery again

The Red Wings will have no shortage of options to pick from with the 13th pick in the 2025 NHL Entry Draft, which will take place after the Stanley Cup Playoffs end.
Like a broken record, the Detroit Red Wings were once again given the shaft by the NHL in the 2025 Draft Lottery.
Despite having a less than 10% chance of moving back from their projected 12th overall slot, that's exactly what happened - Detroit slid back to the 13th overall pick.
Their streak of having not picked 3rd or higher in the NHL Entry Draft has extended into a 35th straight year; their most recent high pick was Keith Primeau in the 1990 Draft.
They will still have plenty of options to choose from as GM Steve Yzerman looks to add another key young piece to his rebuilding puzzle.
Per Max Bultman of The Athletic, the 1st and most obvious choice for the Red Wings is forward Brady Martin of the OHL's Soo Greyhounds. When Detroit fans read his scouting report from Sportsnet, they will see why:
Martin never cuts corners. He only weighs 178 pounds, but plays much bigger than his listed size. He finishes all of his checks, battles in the trenches, drives to the net and makes life generally miserable for opponents.
Should he not be available or if they decided to go in a more defensive-oriented direction, Bultman suggests defenseman Kashawn Aitcheson of the OHL's Barrie Colts.
Additional forwards also suggested to be in the running to be picked 13th overall by Detroit include forward Carter Bear of the WHL's Everett Silvertips as well as Justin Carbonneau of The Blainville-Boisbriand Armada of the QMJHL.
