GM Steve Yzerman and theDetroit Red Wings have suffered the worst case scenario for the team, as they fell in the draft lottery, despite the minimal odds of it happening at 8.9%.

The Detroit Red Wings are again in a bad spot during the first round. This year they'll be picking 13th overall, and won't have to worry their pretty little heads about selecting a major prospect like James Hagens, or Porter Martone.
Instead, they should consider doing some deep research into whose available. While we won't knock GM Steve Yzerman's drafting skills, his free agent selections haven't been so great.
Originally set at 12th overall in 2025, the team will now select 13th, just above the Columbus Blue Jackets.
At 13th overall, the Red Wings could end up selecting Lynden Lakovic, a forward from the Moose Jaw Warriors.
But as we know, nothing is certain, and Yzerman could find someone better who drops to 13th in the draft. Given that players like Matvei Michkov fell to 7th in 2023, anything is bound to happen in 2025.
The lack of all-around luck for the Red Wings in the NHL Draft lottery is not surprising, but it does feel like a kick in the gut.
For reference, here are Tankathon's odds for the Red Wings:
Pick no. 2: 5.1% chance
Pick no. 3: 0.1% chance
Pick no. 4: 0.1% chance
Pick no. 12: 85.7% chance
Pick no. 13: 8.9% chance
Pick no. 14: 0.2% chance

Lyndon Lakovic, here we come.
