The Detroit Red Wings are reportedly pushing hard to acquire $27 million Calgary Flames defenseman
Since the Detroit Red Wings missed the chance to acquire defenseman Quinn Hughes, after their blockbuster trade package with the Canucks fell through. They'll have to settle for the next best option available.
That is $27 million Calgary Flames defenseman Rasmus Andersson, and he could be traded soon after the NHL's Holiday roster freeze has ended.
Andersson would fulfill a need for the Red Wings, playing 24 minutes a night for a rebuilding Flames team, and is second in points behind center Nazem Kadri.
According to reports, the Detroit Red Wings are one of three teams linked to the veteran blueliner.

The Detroit Red Wings missed their opportunity to land Quinn Hughes in a trade. Seeing as they didn't want to give up fledgling blueliner Simon Edvinsson, this could be a great alternative.
Andersson would be another Swedish blueliner added to the roster, and given the team's history with defenseman from this country, it could be a grand slam.
The Red Wings have a deep prospect pool, plenty of cap space, and the chance to make the team better if a deal like this if a trade offer were to go through.
Andersson makes $4.550 million in average annual value against the Flames' salary cap and would be a rental unless Yzerman can sign him to an extension.
Could General Manager Steve Yzerman add yet another proven Swedish-born player to the lineup?
