In the middle of the game, while trailing 4-1 to Slovakia, Team USA decided to change goaltender Alex Nedeljkovic for Red Wing's own, Trey Augustine. In 35 minutes, he made 8 saves out of 9 shots and helped his team build a comeback from 4-1 to 4-4 but lost in overtime 5-4.

The Red Wings also have other members on the USA Team such as Alex Lyon, another goalie, and the defenseman Jeff Petry. Currently standing 4th in Group B of the championship, Team USA also has some Red Wings as part of their coaching staff: Derek Lalonde and Alex Westlund. Drafted 41st overall in 2023, Augustine, who is from South Lyon, Michigan, is playing his first men's championship. At 19 years old, he made 11 saves on 12 shots for the US 6-1 victory versus Germany. In 2 appearances, he has a save percentage of .905 and a 1.67 goals-against average.
He had an impressive year with the Spartans, having a 2.96 goals-against average and .915 save percentage across 35 games, also, 3 shutouts in his first season at MSU. This championship will showcase his skills and eventually earn him a place in the starting lineup for the NHL season next year.
