Gameday Preview: The Detroit Red Wings will have to defend home ice against Macklin Celebrini and the San Jose Sharks, who will play game 2 of their season series.

On January 16th, the Detroit Red Wings will match vs the San Jose Sharks in Little Caesars Arena.
At 28-16-4, the team will need to hold off one of the league's best sophomore players in Macklin Celebrini, who has scored 70 points (24-46) this season as the Sharks' top center.
The Sharks are 23-19-3 and 4th in the Pacific Division with a roster of up-and-coming rookies, including Igor Chernyshov and Colin Graf.
The Red Wings will have to lock in as the team is 6-3-1 in their last ten, while the San Jose Sharks have been on a similar path with 6-4-0. The Sharks come into LCA with a 7-2 loss to the Vegas Golden Knights
They will head into this game looking to rebound from the devastating loss and a 10-10-0 record on the road.
The Red Wings defend home ice with a record of 16-8-1 in home games.
After a loss to the Original Six Boston Bruins, they'll be taking on a rebuild San Jose Sharks team, which is still finding their identity led by Macklin Celebrini.
Their loss to the Bruins saw a team shut out 3-0, without any offense generated. Andrew Copp led the night with five shots, with Cam Talbot guarding the creasing ending the night with 38 saves on 40 shots, and a .950 save percentage.
Fortunately, the Red Wings have another option in the net.

The Detroit Red Wings' projected lines against the San Jose Sharks

John Gibson will guard Little Caesars Arena from the Sharks. He leads the team in goals-against average, with 2.75. The last time the Red Wings faced off against the Sharks left this one key lineup detail a mystery, making a roster change, giving Cam Talbot the crease.
Now, with his recent successes at home, the team has reversed the roles, riding the hot hand with Gibson.

Lucas Raymond is the team leader in points (49) and assists (35), and Alex DeBrincat leads the team in goals (24).
The Red Wings offense has scored 3.1 goals per game, and 149 goals this season, and has allowed 148 goals against this season. A sign that Todd McLellan will have to find a way to tighten up the blueline against a team that scores 3.2 goals per game.
