A big opportunity could be in front of the Detroit Red Wings, as multiple reports indicate that New York Rangers captain Jacob Trouba could be up for grabs today.
Detroit Red Wings fans are well aware of the multiple reports that surfaced during the summer that they were allegedly attempting to acquire New York Rangers captain Jacob Trouba.
Allegedly, Trouba nixed the deal that would have brought him to his home state of Michigan due to not wanting to leave his wife, a physician with a residency at a local New York hospital.
But amidst the struggles of the Rangers, Trouba's name has once again popped up in trade rumors.
And a new explosive report that surfaced minutes ago indicates that Trouba could soon be free for the taking via waivers.
There are a lot of balls in the air regarding Jacob Trouba, per sources. He will not be on the ice for #NYR today due to roster management purposes.
Possible he's traded or even hits the waiver wire at 2 p.m. ET.
If Trouba hits the wavier wire, he would have 24 hours to be claimed by any other of the 31 NHL clubs, or else be sent to the AHL.
Trouba has six assists, averages exactly 20 minutes of ice time, and is a -3 in 20 games this year, his sixth with the Rangers.
He's also under contract through the end of next year with a cap hit of $8 million, something that could cause GM Steve Yzerman to pass on him.
Born in the nearby Detroit suburb of Rochester, Trouba attended the University of Michigan and also played for the USA Hockey National Team Development Program, both of which are located in Ann Arbor.
