On day two of the NHL Draft, trade talks intensify. Larry Brooks of the New York Post reports that the Detroit Red Wings and New York Rangers are discussing a trade involving Michigan native Jacob Trouba.

Rangers GM Chris Drury is actively working on the deal, and Trouba, who played at the University of Michigan, would likely accept.
The proposed trade includes the Rangers retaining $2.5 million of Trouba's $8 million annual cap hit for the remaining two seasons, clearing $5.5 million in cap space for the Rangers. The specifics of what Detroit would send in return are undisclosed.
The Red Wings, who recently traded Jake Walman, see Trouba as an ideal #2 defenseman behind Moritz Seider. Despite declining metrics, Trouba's physical play and leadership are valuable assets. Last season, Trouba had 22 points in 69 games, averaging over 21 minutes per game. This potential trade could significantly impact both teams' futures.
