The World Junior Championship is always an interesting event to follow, as it showcases most of the young talent who will hit the NHL stage in the coming years.
For a team like the Detroit Red Wings, which has been rebuilding for many years now and can count on an impressive prospect pool, it's a great opportunity to assess where their prospects are in their development as they face the best in the world in their age category.
This year, five Wings prospects will be in action at the tournament.
Five Red Wings Prospects To Be Showcased In Upcoming WJC
Here's a breakdown of all the members of the Detroit Red Wings organization who are set to take part in the tournament:
Michal Pradel and Michal Svrcek with Team Slovakia
First off, Pradel is an 18-year-old goaltender drafted 75th overall by the Red Wings in 2025. The six-foot-five goalie has been having a great year with the Tri-City Storm, where he boasts a 9-9-3 record, a 2.46 GAA, and a .916 save percentage.
As for Svrcek, the five-foot-ten left winger tallied 14 points, including nine goals, in nine games with Brynas' Junior Team in the Junior Swedish Hockey League this season. The Wings' 119th overall pick in 2025 also took part in six games with Vasteras IK in the SHL, in which he didn't score a point.
Eddie Genborg with Team Sweden
Steve Yzerman's 44th overall pick in 2025 has impressed so far this year with Timra IK, scoring 15 points, including eight goals, in 26 games. With Team Sweden's high aspirations for this tournament, he will definitely be among the players to follow closely.
Carter Bear with Team Canada
Bear, the Wings' first-round pick in the latest NHL Draft, struggled with injuries earlier this year, but has been off to a great start so far, tallying 27 points, including 13 goals in 23 games with the Everett Silvertips in the WHL.
Max Plante with Team USA
Finally, Max Plante has been dominating the NCAA this year. After 20 games, he leads his nation with 30 points. The tournament will be held in his home state, and his university's arena, which could help him bring his A-game at all times on the ice.
