The trade talks between the Detroit Red Wings and the Pittsburgh Penguins took a turn as a new player is reportedly involved.

Usually centered around forwards Rickard Rakell and Bryan Rust, the conversations has now shifted to include veteran center Kevin Hayes, who could find himself in a Red Wings jersey if the proposed deal moves forward.
According to Heavy.com, the suggested trade would send Hayes to Detroit in exchange for Justin Holl and a 2026 third-round pick.

Trade Proposal Sends Hayes to Detroit

This proposal makes sense for both sides. Detroit would be acquiring Hayes, a 6-foot-5 forward with one year remaining on his seven-year, $50 million contract.
While no longer at his peak, Hayes remains a productive middle-six option. Last season, he scored 13 goals and 10 assists in 64 games-a respectable output for someone projected to slot into Detroit's bottom-six.
Meanwhile, the Red Wings would move on from Holl, whose three-year, $10.2 million deal hasn't worked out. Holl suited up for 73 games last season, tallying just 8 points, and at times found himself as a healthy scratch.
The addition of Jacob Bernard-Docker this offseason only increased speculation about Holl's future in Detroit.
Red Wings GM Steve Yzerman said:
"Jacob Bernard-Docker gives us a little bit of depth on defense. Not a big-name signing but has been an effective player in his time in Ottawa in particular. He plays hard and competes."

Bernard-Docker signed a one-year deal worth $875,000 and is expected to challenge for a roster spot this fall.
Detroit's offseason has been active, but Yzerman hasn't closed the door on more changes.
Steve Yzerman added:
It's just been my experience over the years that things kind of work themselves out Trying to be diligent, maybe patient, just wait for the right player, the right opportunity, whether it is in a trade or in free agency, to add to our lineup and use our assets wisely if we can."

With over $12 million in cap space still available, Detroit remains in a position to strike, especially if the right deal comes along. Kevin Hayes might just be that next piece.
