Jake Walman goes viral for squirting water at Panthers' bench
Ex-Red Wings defenseman Jake Walman went viral for squirting his water bottle in the direction of Panthers defenseman Seth Jones during a break in Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Final.
Fans of the Detroit Red Wings everywhere remain confused as to why popular defenseman Jake Walman was suddenly traded nearly a year ago to the San Jose Sharks (along with a 2nd round draft pick) in return for literally nothing.
Walman would lead the Sharks in scoring by a defenseman until he was traded to the Edmonton Oilers at the Trade Deadline in March, and he's currently
playing in the Stanley Cup Final while the Red Wings missed the postseason for the 9th straight year.
Walman, who already has several assists during the Stanley Cup Final, went viral for squirting his water bottle from the bench toward the Florida Panthers' bench and defenseman Seth Jones in particular during a commercial break in Game 3 on Monday.
Walman has 8 points (1G, 7A) in 18 postseason games for the Oilers, who are back in the Stanley Cup Final for the 2nd year in a row.
Fans wondering why Red Wings GM Steve Yzerman suddenly traded Walman are going to keep wondering. He was specifically asked in late April for details surrounding the circumstances of the trade, which he declined to answer.
It remains among the more confusing moves on the part of the Red Wings, leading to speculation that something may have been going on behind the scenes that was never made public.
Almost as confusing was that Walman was shipped out of town only a year after signing a 3-year contract with the Red Wings.
