According to Darren Dreger of TSN, the Toronto Maple Leafs are set to name Matthews as their new captain on Wednesday.

John Tavares has expressed full support for the decision. Auston Matthews, a key player for the Leafs, is expected to bring a new dynamic to the leadership role.

Tavares, captain since 2019, reportedly backs Matthews' appointment, signalling a smooth transition and continued team cohesion.
