Former San Jose Sharks general manager Doug Wilson regretted the 2019 decision to let Joe Pavelski leave for the Dallas Stars.
Wilson admitted to San Jose Hockey Now:
"We should have found a way to get it done. It was a mistake."
Pavelski, who announced his retirement this summer, enjoyed a successful stint with the Stars, averaging 24 goals per season over five years and 27.3 goals in the past three seasons.
Despite Pavelski's late draft selection and modest stature, he overcame the odds to become a significant figure in NHL history. Wilson humorously reflected on the Sharks' decision, questioning:
"If we're so smart, why did we wait until the seventh round to draft him?"
In other news, Detroit Red Wings prospect Trey Augustine is on track to make USA Hockey history with a potential third World Junior medal. New Red Wings prospect Jesse Kiiskinen, who has shown promise at the Summer Showcase, was involved in a trade that saw Andrew Gibson move to San Jose.
