Who is the greatest head coach in NHL history?
The NHL has seen many legendary coaches which is why it is so hard to define who has been the best ever.
Former Red Wings head coach Scotty Bowman is of course at the top of the list as he has won multiple cups with the Canadiens, Penguins and Red Wings making a serious case for the number 1 spot.
Oilers Glen Sather is also up there as he won four cups with the Oilers and is often forgot about because he had such a stacked team with Gretzky, Messier, Coffey and Furh.
Toe Blake is another coach that is regarded as one of the best as he won a total of 8 cups with the Canadiens including 5 that were in a row.
Finally there is Al Arbour who coached the Islanders to 4 straight Stanley Cups in the 1980's. Arbour coached in New York for over 20 years and led the Islanders to multiple great season.
With so many great coaches passing through the NHL over the years, it is hard to put one name at the top of the list but it for sure that these 4 names are in the discussion.
