16 years ago, history was made
The 2008 Red Wings were the NHL's Gold standard and they proved it by lifting the Stanley Cup for the 11th time in the franchise's history.
Here's a film below about their playoff run:
With legendary names such as Pavel Datsyuk, Chris Chelios, Dominik Hasek, Nicklas Lidstrom, this team was built to win. Their path to the finals was first against the Nashville Predators, after their longtime rivals (the Colorado Avalanche) and finally the Dallas Stars.
Now, here come the Finals against the Pittsburgh Penguins that started an epic rivalry. The Red Wings took the lead two games to none, with no goals allowed but everything changed as the Penguins weren't getting swept. The teams clashed until Game 6, when the Red Wings sealed the deal. This was a great moment.
Yes, it has been 16 years since the Cup was in Hockeytown. Unfortunately, it looks like it isn't coming back any time soon. But who knows? Yzerman and the rest of the squad might do something that could surprise all of us.
