It appears that the Detroit Red Wings have again missed on a top free-agent as Mason McTavish's fate has been sealed, as he has signed a 7-year contract with Pat Verbeek and the Anaheim Ducks.

According to NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman, Anaheim Ducks center Mason McTavish has signed a new deal with the team.
The contract will keep Ducks forward Mason McTavish in the orange for the next seven years. The deal will pay him a total of $42 million, with a $7 million cap hit.
Forward McTavish has come off a career year with the Ducks, scoring 52 points (22-30) in 76 games.
For the young Ducks center, this is an impressive stat due to the fact that he was on one of the worst teams in the NHL.

It looked like, after McTavish had practiced with the Ottawa 67s while negotiations were ongoing, that Verbeek would never be able to seal the deal he did today.
The Detroit Red Wings were one team who were thought to be in on the 3rd overall pick of the Ducks.
There was speculation that the team could've sent defenseman Axel Sandin-Pellikka in return for the 22-year-old forward from Zurich.
McTavish has played a total of 229 NHL games during his career and scored 140 points (60-80).
The Red Wings have again missed out on an incredibly high-value forward who should be a meaningful contributor to the Ducks' future.
