Here are the former Detroit Red Wings players who will compete in the upcoming Stanley Cup Final between the Florida Panthers and the Edmonton Oilers.
The Stanley Cup Final is finally near, with the Edmonton Oilers and Florida Panthers set to meet for Game 1 of their 2024 Final rematch on Wednesday.
The series will also feature many former Detroit Red Wings players.
Detroit Red Wings fans still deciding which team to cheer for in the Final might side with the Edmonton Oilers, who have four former Red Wings on their roster, while the Panthers have one.
Indeed, Jake Walman,
Troy Stecher, Calvin Pickard, and Mattias Janmark will play for the Oilers, while only Tomáš Nosek will play for Florida.
Let's take a look at a few of them individually:
The former Red Wings defenseman has been playing an important role for the Oilers in the playoffs so far. Most fans will remember his time in Detroit because of the controversial trade that sent him to the San Jose Sharks for future considerations.
This wasn't one of Yzerman's best moves, and the fact that Walman competes in the Final now says it all.
Pickard spent nearly three years in the Red Wings organization before joining the Oilers. Set to start the series as
Stuart Skinner's number two, he could end up playing, as both Skinner's performances and
Sam Bennett's dangerous antics are hard to predict.
Nosek was a member of the Red Wings between 2014 and 2017. The 32-year-old player could enter the list of undrafted Stanley Cup champions following a 10-year journey that took him to the Las Vegas Golden Knights, Boston Bruins, and New Jersey Devils, both in the AHL and the NHL.
