📣 The hockey journalists' peer association has appointed Axel Sandin Pellikka as the junior of the year in Swedish ice hockey! ⭐ "In a class of its own!"
An honorary award for the year's best junior. The award has been presented since 1961/1962. The board of the Ice Hockey Journalists' Association has chosen the winner since 1992/1993. In the years 1961-1992, the winner was chosen by the newspaper Expressen. The awards are given for efforts in the regular season, playoffs and junior national team.
Sandin-Pellikka is now in excellent company, as the award has previously gone to Tampa Bay Lightning captain Victor Hedman, former Washington Capitals elite forward Nicklas Backstrom, current Buffalo Sabres captain Rasmus Dahlin, and Minnesota Wild forward Joel Eriksson-Ek.
Sandin-Pellikka, who was taken by the Red Wings with the 17th pick in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft, has also been rumoured to be close to joining Detroit for a potential late-year playoff push.
He also was the captain of Team Sweden during the World Junior Championships earlier this year, scoring 10 points (4G, 6A) including an opening-game hat trick.
