One NHL Insider has delivered a surprising statement on the return of Detroit Red Wings nemesis, Marc-Andre Fleury.
NHL Insider Pierre LeBrun has dropped some juicy information on the potential return on one of the Detroit Red Wings' nemesis.
If you recall last season, we reported on his response to a question of why he didn't fight goaltender Cam Talbot.
That is now retired goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury. Fleury helped the Penguins overcome the during the 2009 Stanley Cup finals. After 1,051 games in the NHL and three Stanley Cups, he finally hung up the skates.
He would come back to the Pittsburgh Penguins for one night only in preseason play. Since then, we assume he's living a comfortable life at home, enjoying time with his family, after 21 years in the NHL.
We speculate that teams like the Edmonton Oilers are entertaining the idea of bringing him back out of retirement, according to Pierre LeBrun.
Will the Edmonton Oilers drag retired goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury out of retirement?
The idea sounds preposterous, but given the high level of injuries that have occurred this season, it might not be.
One team that is desperate for a goaltender, and was once linked to the Red Wings in trade for prospect Sebastian Cossa, is the Edmonton Oilers.
Fleury could prove to be a useful backup to veteran goaltender Calvin Pickard, who helped push the team into the Stanley Cup finals last season, and he can't shoulder the burden of a franchise himself.
That is where Fleury's 1,051 games of experience could come into play. The question is, would the Oilers have to sign him to a professional tryout for a period of time, or would they have to sign him to a one-year, two-way deal to get him out of the comfort of retirement?
It'll be interesting to see this story develop further.
