A new front runner to acquire Kyle Connor from the Winnipeg Jets emerges: 3 teams named

The Detroit Red Wings have been named as one of the front-runners by NHL Insider Frank Seravalli. However, two other suitors for the Michigan-born forward have emerged.

The two who have been reported to be interested in Kyle Connor, as playoff contenders, the Washington Capitals and the Columbus Blue Jackets, who are on the cusp of a playoff run.

The Detroit Red Wings are positioned better than the Blue Jackets and should have any easy to sell to Connor, if he makes it to free agency in 2026.

Kyle Connor scored 97 points last season (41-56) and will be due a raise on his next contract. It's been reported that Connor and his agent will want to explore other options rather than just re-signing in Winnipeg. It gives other NHL teams with a deeper purse a chance at acquiring a forward who could put them into contention.

The Washington Capitals were pushed out of the running for Nikolaj Ehlers, as their Metropolitan Division rivals, the Carolina Hurricanes, would sign him. With the prospect of Connor being available, GM Chris Patrick would reach deep into his pockets to sign the former 30-goal scorer. With $36.5 million in cap space, it's sure to be a bidding war.

The Columbus Blue Jackets weren't far off from a wildcard spot in the playoffs in the East. If GM Don Waddell could lure Kyle Connor south of his home state, he could be the player who could make the team fierce competitors in the East.

The Blue Jackets have $46 million available in space and could easily add a superstar upfront with that kind of money.
