Red Wings looking to acquire Kyle Connor from the Winnipeg Jets-NHL insider reveals it's very likely to happen

NHL Insider Frank Seravalli has linked the Detroit Red Wings to Winnipeg Jets forward Kyle Connor, whom GM Steve Yzerman could make a splash for in 2026.

According to NHL Insider Frank Seravalli, the Red Wings could make a move for the pending UFA, who scored 97 points (41-56) in 82 games this season with the Jets.
The Red Wings could use another top-six forward in the lineup and have missed out on multiple opportunities this postseason to acquire a meaningful forward, missing out on Brock Boeser, among others.
Connor currently makes $7.142 million AAV against the Jets' cap space, of which they only have $3.93 million at the moment.
"There's not any reason to panic, but a lot of people have been wondering, if Kyle Connor does decide to go to market next summer, would the Detroit Red Wings be a fit for Kyle Connor?" Seravelli said in a stream on Tuesday. "You could see the Michigan product going back. I could certainly see that. It would seem to make a ton of sense for a Detroit Red Wings team that could use additional scoring punch."
Connor's Next Contract When he Hits The Market
If Kyle Connor does go to the market in 2026, he could earn a substantial raise, of which Seravalli himself believes he could earn up to $11 million on his next deal.
Ultimately, he'd price himself out of Winnipeg should he pursue that AAV. A cost the Red Wings could shoulder; it's doubtful about the Jets, though.
They would have to move cap space in order to make it work, and as a contending team, they will have to find a way to sign him or trade him before he walks.
It'd be fitting for the Michigan product to head home; Connor would be one piece who could push the team into contention right away.
