It looks as though the identity of who the Red Wings could select with their 1st round pick in the upcoming 2025 NHL Entry Draft has been released.
The Detroit Red Wings have now unfortunately missed the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the last 9 years straight; it's now the longest drought in franchise history.
Considering the drought that the lowly teams of the 1970s who were commonly referred to as the "Dead Things" or "Dead Wings", that's an astonishing fact for most.
By all indications, the Red Wings will have the 12th overall pick in the 2025 NHL Entry Draft; they have a not impossible but barely there chance at the 1st overall pick.
But let's be honest - if they weren't going to get the 1st overall pick in 2020 when they had literally the worst record in the NHL in 20 years, they aren't going to get it now.
Per team Insider Bob Duff, the Red Wings could be considering forward Brady Martin of the Soo Greyhounds if they do in fact, pick 12th overall.
Martin never cuts corners. He only weighs 178 pounds, but plays much bigger than his listed size. He finishes all of his checks, battles in the trenches, drives to the net and makes life generally miserable for opponents.
