An official announcement on social media confirmed the news:
"The WILD WINGS management has succeeded in bringing 27-year-old Tim Gettinger directly from the AHL to the Neckar. The 1.98-meter tall left-shooter can play both on the wing and as a center and has clearly demonstrated his scoring abilities in North America.
Most recently, the American played for the Grand Rapids Griffins, but overall he appeared in more than 350 games in the American Hockey League [AHL], where he averaged 0.5 points per game in contributing to his team's success. Originally drafted by the New York Rangers in 2016, Gettinger also played a total of 16 games in the best league in the world."
The 6-foot-6 winger was originally drafted 141st overall by the New York Rangers in 2016.
Since then, he played four seasons in the OHL with the Soo Greyhounds before joining the Rangers organization. In the 2018-19 season, he competed in his first season with the Hartford Wolf Pack as well as his first NHL games with New York.
This past season, Gettinger took part in 54 games with the Griffins, scoring 16 points and a minus-eight rating with 19 penalty minutes. He also tallied an assist in three playoff games.
Over his seven pro hockey seasons, he played 237 games with Hartford, adding 109 more with Grand Rapids. In total, he tallied 174 points, including 81 goals in the AHL.
