A major report has been issued which suggests the Detroit Red Wings could acquire a two-time Stanley Cup champion to bring the team back to the playoffs.

After making massive strides this offseason by acquiring goaltender John Gibson, Jacob Bernard-Docker, and by bringing back several key veterans, General Manager Steve Yzerman might not be done just yet.
According to multiple insiders, Yzerman could be looking to make another move before training camp, reportedly targeting Pittsburgh Penguins' Bryan Rust on the trade market.
The two-time Stanley Cup champ has scored 437 points, including 202 goals, in 638 career games with the Pens. In Detroit, his experience and natural scoring skills could bring the offensive depth fans have been waiting for all these years.
But as exciting as this possibility is, it also raises an important question: what would it cost?
The Penguins, likely looking to shake things up after missing the playoffs, would demand a hefty return, involving players such as Simon Edvinsson and Marco Kasper.
However, Edvinsson and Kasper are important pieces of Detroit's future, and sacrificing them for a 33-year-old veteran wouldn't make sense.
Unless the Penguins agree on a package including draft picks and other prospects or players, it would be surprising to see Yzerman able to make this move happen.
The Red Wings are in a great place to compete for a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference next season, but it won't be easy.
With the Florida Panthers, Toronto Maple Leafs, Tampa Bay Lightning, Montreal Canadiens, and Ottawa Senators all competing in their division, the Wings could greatly benefit from Rust's skills and experience.
Also, after disappointing seasons, the Pittsburgh Penguins, Philadelphia Flyers, Columbus Blue Jackets, and New York Rangers will surely be in the running for a wild card spot in the East, which could complicate things for the Wings, if they can't secure a top position in their division early in the season.
Adding a two-time champion like Bryan Rust could be the final piece that propels the Wings team back into playoff hockey.
