Detroit Red Wings and Anaheim Ducks combine for a blockbuster trade involving John Gibson
The Detroit Red Wings have landed their franchise netminder via trade with Anaheim Ducks.
Steve Yzerman has redeemed himself for a very poor NHL trade deadline, as he has acquired his true number-one goaltender.
The official trade between the Ducks and Red Wings is one fans should buckle up for!
In a head-scratching move, the Anaheim Ducks are trading away their longtime goaltender John Gibson, who has formally requested a trade last summer from the organization.
Gibson's a true star between the pipes, and his save percentage proves it, despite the rough-sided record (which came with being in Anaheim so long).

UPDATE: The #RedWings have acquired John Gibson from the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for Petr Mrazek, a 2nd round pick in 2027 and a 4th round pick in 2026.
Petr Mrazek was acquired by a trade deadline in a trade with the Chicago Blackhawks alongside veteran Craig Smith in exchange for Red Wings forward Joe Veleno, a true score by Yzerman to flip a poorly developed 25-year old, which resulted in the organization acquiring a #1 goaltender.
The goaltending situation in Detroit will now push Alex Lyon to the free agent market, as we already suspected.
With Cam Talbot's unreal play to end the 2024-25 season, the 1-2 punch of Gibson and Talbot will certainly be a treat for Red Wings fans to watch.
