The Detroit Red Wings ended the 2024-25 NHL season sixth in the Atlantic Division with 86 points, missing the playoffs for the 15th consecutive year.

To improve their roster, GM Steve Yzerman made key moved in free agency, the biggest was acquiring goaltender John Gibson from Anaheim for Petr Mrazek and two draft picks.
Gibson, set to be Detroit's starting goaltender alongside Cam Talbot, posted an 11-11-2 record, 2.77 GAA, and .911 save percentage in 29 games with the Ducks last season.
Prospect Sebastian Cossa, a 2021 draft pick, impressed with a 21-15-6 record and 2.45 GAA in 41 AHL games for Grand Rapids.
Despite missing out on stars like Mitch Marner and Nikolaj Ehlers, the Red Wings couldn't secure a meeting before free agency, Yzerman noted.
With $12 million in cap space, Yzerman aims to improve via trades.
As the 2025-26 season begins October 7, Detroit's roster continues to evolve.
