Detroit Red Wings acquire young defenseman in exchange for draft picks: A major proposal emerges

The Detroit Red Wings have yet to be where they need to be with trades and free agent acquisitions. If GM Steve Yzerman was bold enough, he'd be calling up Ken Holland on the West Coast at this moment.

While Ken Holland is spending like a drunken sailor on his favorite veterans, turning the Kings into a circus, it's time for Yzerman to take advantage of this.

He could acquire star defenseman Brandt Clarke from the Kings. It would require some futures with veteran Erik Gustafsson going back to Los Angeles.

While the Red Wings add a future star to the lineup, they could get rid of excess cap space with Gustafsson going back to Los Angeles.

Gustafsson can be another veteran that Holland will add to the lineup, like Thanos does the infinity stones. Though the only difference is, Holland won't accomplish the goal of winning a cup.

Adding Clarke would give the Red Wings a solid chance at developing their blueline for the future, while hopefully signing him to an extension. Clarke is in the final year of his $2.59 million AAV ELC.

Clarke would be able to play on a team that gives him a fresh start and new expectations. Originally selected 8th overall in 2021 by the Kings, he's not been able to perform up to top-four expectations in Los Angeles.

This past season, he's played 78 games with the Kings and scored 33 points (5-28).

While the Kings would get offensive-defenseman Gustafsson, and a 2nd-round and 4th-round pick in return.

Gustafsson has the experience that could add more responsible play to the lineup on the defensive side of the puck, and an option to use him on the power-play.
