Ahead of the 2025-26 season, Detroit Red Wings forward Patrick Kane is poised to break a record set by legendary American-born winger, Mike Modano, again.

Patrick Kane is one of the best American-born forwards in the NHL. A three-time Stanley Cup champion, he's now in the twilight of his career. That doesn't mean he's stopping, however.
At the end of the 2024-25 season, he finished with 1,343 total points, placing him behind former Red Wings winger, Mike Modano, with 1,347 points scored in a career by a US-born forward.
With only a 32-point difference, this shouldn't take much for Kane to leapfrog Modano, as he's been a productive member of the Red Wings. He's played a total of 122 games in Detroit and has scored 106 points.
While Modano is only 31 points ahead of Kane, his career was ultimately put at a standstill while recovering from a wrist injury in 2010, which put a dent in what could've been a higher total of accumulated points. Nevertheless, it's another record for Kane to break now.
In addition to breaking Modano's milestone, he'll only need eight total goals to hit 500 scored during his career. A feat that has been made easier while playing in the lineup with good friend and teammate Alex DeBrincat.
«It's been great,» Kane said of his time with the Red Wings toward the end of last season. «Obviously really appreciative of Steve (Yzerman) and the organization to take a chance on me coming back from the surgery, and I think even last year it maybe didn't so much feel like it was home, or like it was my team, or the team I played for. But coming into this year, and especially now, I definitely feel like a Red Wing now. It's been a great place for me to continue my career, and I've really enjoyed it.»

Todd McLellan has found a way to bring Showtime back to Hockeytown, as he was one of the Red Wings' top producers, scoring nearly 60 points last season.
The offense ballooned as soon as Kane was placed on the same line as rookie Marco Kasper and Alex DeBrincat.
At this point in his career, any points he can acquire on his way out are a bonus, as the future HHOF player will have a legacy that has put him above some of the best US-born forwards in the NHL, including Mike Modano.
