The Detroit Red Wings broadcasting team received a special honor from the NHL.
In a league undergoing major turnover in its local broadcast booths, one franchise continues to stand above the rest.
According to The Athletic's annual NHL broadcast rankings survey, the Red Wings' longtime pairing of Ken Daniels and Mickey Redmond has once again been named the top broadcasting team in the league, both locally and nationally.
As The Athletic explains,
"We ask fans to rate their favorite teams' broadcasts on a scale from 1 to 5 and invite them to rate as many other local broadcasts as they wish... Those two scores are then averaged into a composite score, which is used to determine how each team is ranked in this story."
Ken Daniels and Mickey Redmond: The Best Broadcasting Duo In The NHL
Daniels and Redmond, who have worked together for nearly 30 years, received a staggering 4.96 out of 5 from Detroit fans and a league-leading 3.83 from national audiences. That combined score locked them in at number one for the second straight year.
While other markets are dealing with instability, 16 of 32 NHL teams have changed or will change either their play-by-play or color commentator since 2022, Detroit remains loyal to its duo.
The Athletic also shared comments from fans:
"Mickey Redmond and Ken Daniels are Detroit legends who have more chemistry than Olivia Newton-John and John Travolta in 'Grease.'"
"They provide great play-by-play calling and team/player insights. They have fun when they do their broadcasts. Ken Daniels does a great job of keeping the energy up regardless of who scores a goal."
"Just give them the award now."
Doing all this despite covering a team that hasn't made the playoffs for nearly 10 years is an impressive accomplishment.
