NHL decides to steal important goal as Detroit Red Wings attempt to secure playoff wildcard spot
As the Wild and Red Wings faced off for puck drop, the game was quite messy as both teams appeared to still be in vacation mode, aside from Red Wings forward
Alex DeBrincat.
DeBrincat buried the first goal since the NHL's return from the 4 Nations Face-Off break.
'The cat' [DeBrincat] was certainly out of the hat, as he wasn't done there.
Early on in the second period, DeBrincat once again put the Red Wings above, making it 2-0, or so we thought?
Left all alone on the power-play, DeBrincat skated in and wired a shot top shelf, the goal light and horn sounded, but
Dylan Larkin insured the puck was in while his teammates were celebrating.
The referee on the ice signaled a goal, but then reviewed the play, finding out that DeBrincat's original shot actually didn't go in - Larkin's tap in, while his teammates were celebrating did.
Fans immediately took to social media, specifically a group of Minnesota Wild fans, signalling frustration as according to them, it 'should not be a goal'.
Here is the play in question:
A Minnesota Wild media member even commented on the flukey goal, signalling potential signs of the game being rigged.
After a lengthy review and the NHL attempting to steal a much needed goal for the Red Wings, Dylan Larkin was granted the goal.
Each and every kind of advantage is needed at the moment due to the tight playoff race in
the Atlantic Division.
