A member of the Detroit Red Wings' coaching staff is officially leaving the organization to join Rick Tocchet with the Philadelphia Flyers.

The Detroit Red Wings had many changes to make this summer, but it's unlikely they were planning on having to replace a member of their coaching staff - especially after already replacing Derek Lalonde with Todd McLellan during the regular season.
However, it appears they will now need to find someone new, as the team's assistant coach, Jay Varady, is joining the Philadelphia Flyers organization to work under Rick Tocchet.
Tocchet and Varady previously worked together with the Arizona Coyotes.
The Flyers also announced the hiring of Jaroslav Svejkovsky, who was Tocchet's assistant in Vancouver last season.
Here's an excerpt from the official press release, including comments from Tocchet:
"The Philadelphia Flyers announced today they have hired Jaroslav Svejkovsky and Jay Varady as assistant coaches, according to General Manager Daniel Briere. They will join head coach Rick Tocchet behind the bench.

'I'm excited to bring Yogi and Jay on board with me. I know both of them very well. They each provide a different skill set and, more importantly, a different voice - both of which I believe are crucial in not only building a coaching staff, but an entire team and how we grow together. I very much look forward to getting down to work with them again soon.'"
Varady, 47, worked in Detroit for the past three years. During his time with the Red Wings, the team posted a 115-104-27 record.
This leaves the Red Wings looking for a new assistant coach. Several interesting candidates are available. With all NHL head coaching jobs now filled, contenders who didn't land a head job may be tempted to return to the league next season in assistant roles.
Stay tuned for updates on the Red Wings' coaching staff as Todd McLellan begins the search for Varady's replacement.
