The Detroit Red Wings may have found the ideal solution to their blue line issue without making an expensive acquisition like Erik Karlsson.

Many rumors have been going around suggesting Erik Karlsson could end up being traded to the Detroit Red Wings by the Pittsburgh Penguins.
However, the odds aren't in favor of it happening, considering the 35-year-old's contract and Steve Yzerman's management style.
According to new comments made by former Wings and current Grand Rapids Griffins assistant coach Brian Lashoff, the team could already have their star defenseman in the lineup.

The Detroit Red Wings Already Have Their Solution At The Blue Line

While one player can't save a team, the expectations are high for the 22-year-old defenseman Simon Edvinsson, who's about to enter his second full season with the Red Wings.
According to Lashoff, he could become a key piece for the Wings due to his ceiling, skills, and size.
Here's what he had to say about his former teammate and player in an interview:
"I think the sky's the limit for him. Just as a defender, for being that age and playing the minutes he did against tough competition, it's impressive what he did, and now it's on him to kind of pull himself to that standard as well and continue to grow and keep pushing the bar as high as he can, year after year, which he certainly has the potential to do."

"I'm obviously really proud of him, I had played with him in my last year, and then I got the chance to coach him and work with him my first year coaching, so I had a good relationship with him and tried to help him with as much as possible. You could see the talent right away, the size of him and his ability to skate. The one thing that I think he took really seriously from when he got over here and us working with him as a staff is just his defending."

Last season, Edvinsson scored 31 points in 78 games, with a +12 plus/minus. Fans are eager to see him in action in the coming weeks to assess where he's at in his development, but if Lashoff is right, the Wings could already have their star defenseman in the lineup, making the addition of Erik Karlsson more than optional.
