NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman has confirmed that should a Detroit Red Wings and Vancouver Canucks trade come to fruition involving defenseman Quinn Hughes, it won't involve Lucas Raymond and Dylan Larkin.

As trade rumors evolve regarding defenseman Quinn Hughes of the Vancouver Canucks, the Detroit Red Wings remain a landing spot for the former Michigan Wolverine.
Elliotte Friedman of the 32 Thoughts Podcast reported today that while the New Jersey Devils, the franchise his brothers Jack and Luke Hughes play for, are in a top spot, the Red Wings remain in the fold.
Michigan is a special spot for Hughes, as he played hockey at the University of Michigan, and his family lives there in the summer.
Though the Red Wings do have a cache of assets that could be attractive for the Canucks, it appears that Red Wings stars Dylan Larkin or Lucas Raymond won't be a part of the Quinn Hughes trade to Vancouver.
«I do think Detroit will be a potential match if the time ever comes I started talking about centers and the Red Wings' fans are like he's talking about Larkin. I was not talking about Larkin. I don't think there's going to be a Quinn Hughes for Dylan Larkin deal out there. When the time comes, or if the time comes, yes, I do believe that Detroit will be a player, but I don't think it's going to be for like Raymond or Larkin,»

Hughes is in year five of his six-year $47.1 million extension, which expires at the end of the 2026-27 season.
So Steve Yzerman would have to work on a deal to ensure he stays a Red Wing afterwards so he doesn't end up as an expensive rental for a year.

Who will the Detroit Red Wings trade for defenseman Quinn Hughes?

According to Elliotte Friedman, the Detroit Red Wings would have to consider moving a center, which could line up behind Elias Pettersson.
So it could end up being a question of whether or not they trade a standout forward like Nate Danielson to Vancouver, or even Marco Kasper, with a draft pick attached for the former 1st-round pick of the Vancouver Canucks.
Danielson is a player the Canucks have wanted all along since the 2023 NHL draft in Nashville, but drafted Tom Willander at 11th overall.
The former Norris Trophy-winning defenseman's services are coveted in the NHL, and pairing Moritz Seider and Quinn Hughes could turn the team into a bigger threat than they are in the Atlantic.
