New insight has revealed that the Detroit Red Wings are reportedly seeking to acquire a 6-foot-7 former Maple Leaf defenseman this offseason.
The Detroit Red Wings will be heading into the 2025/26 NHL season seeking to bolster their depth across the board, as this basement franchise is hoping to break their nine-straight playoff absence.
That being said, one particular area the organization could undoubtedly benefit from is their defensive depth.
At the moment, the Red Wings currently have a proven top-pairing defenseman in Moritz Seider; however, besides that, there are some unanswered questions.
As their second pairing of Simon Edvinsson and Albert Johansson seems pretty promising, but the organization's third pairing is raising some questions, and an acquisition for this position might just be Detroit's best bet.
Additionally, according to Daily Faceoff, both Erik Gustafsson and Jacob Bernard-Docker will be slated for the bottom two.

There is undoubtedly room for the Red Wings to add defensive depth, and that gives potential for a veteran defenseman who is seeking another shot.
That player could be the Toronto Maple Leafs' former defenseman, Jani Hakanpaa.
This 6-foot-7 blue liner endured a brutal season last year, as he was recovering from knee surgery and was limited to two regular-season games prior to being shut down for good.
However, now, according to the Finnish hockey outlet NHLSuomi, this towering defenseman is seemingly healthy and prepared to make his NHL comeback.
If that's the case, the Detroit Red Wings could receive a solid addition to their roster, which is currently in desperate need of bolstering their depth.
