Maple Leafs acquire their perfect Mitch Marner replacement in trade proposal with the Detroit Red Wings

The Mitch Marner era for the Toronto Maple Leafs came to an official and major end earlier this summer when he was traded to the Vegas Golden Knights in a sign and trade move.

The Maple Leafs received Nick Roy, who had only 32 points (10G, 22A), in return for Marner.

Are the Maple Leafs hoping to replace the offense of 102 points (27G, 75A) lost by Marner? Analyst Cole Shelton of Heavy.com proposed the following trade for the Maple Leafs with the divisional foe Detroit Red Wings:

DeBrincat had 70 points (39G, 31A) with the Red Wings this year, his 2nd in Detroit after being acquired.

DeBrincat was acquired by the Red Wings from the divisional foe Ottawa Senators in July 2023, and they sent Dominik Kubalik with prospect Donovan Sebrango and a conditional 1st round pick and a 4th round pick in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft in return.

DeBrincat then signed a 4 year contract with Detroit with an AAV (average annual value) of $7.875 million.

DeBrincat was one of the main reasons why the Red Wings were able to sign Patrick Kane, as they are good friends dating back to their days as teammates with the Blackhawks.
