A Detroit Red Wings fan-favorite forward is expected to receive one of the highest-paid contracts in the franchise's history following a substantial raise in the NHL's salary cap moving forward.
It has been noted that the National Hockey League is planning to raise the salary cap in the upcoming years.
Reports have already begun to state that next season it will increase to $104 million and $113.5 million the following year.
However, new reports by a well-trusted NHL insider, Elliotte Friedman, have revealed that this salary cap increase is anticipated to be higher than originally expected.

On Elliotte Friedman's latest episode of his 32 Thoughts podcast, he states that he hears that next season the salary cap is expected to increase to $107 million next season, which would be a $3 million increase compared to previous reports.
"I've had a couple of people mention the number 107 to me. As you mentioned, it was supposed to be 104 next year, but I'm hearing the number 107 come up. I think there are some people who really think even the year after, where it's temporarily at least in pencil for 113, that that could go even higher."
With that being said, new speculations have revealed that a top Detroit Red Wings forward may receive one of the highest-paid contracts in the franchise's history.

Due to all NHL teams being expected to receive a $12 million increase next season, speculations have begun to surface regarding DeBrincat's contract extension.
Highly skilled forward Alex DeBrincat, who is currently in his third year of his four-year, $7.875 million contract, is expected to become an unrestricted free agent (UFA) in 2027.
This ultimately means that DeBrincat will hit the perfect sweet spot for a contract extension, as the NHL salary cap will increase by his time.
That said, speculations have already surfaced regarding the possibility of this 27-year old forward being issued the biggest contract in Detroit's history.
