Elliotte Friedman provides substantial update regarding the NHL salary cap: It's huge for the Red Wings
The insider Elliotte Friedman provided an important update regarding the NHL salary cap; here's why it's huge news for the Detroit Red Wings.
Reports stated that it could get to $104M next season and $113.5M the following year.
However, according to Elliotte Friedman, those numbers could go even higher.
Friedman Reveals NHL Salary Cap Will Increase More Than Initially Planned
On the latest 32 Thoughts episode, Friedman stated that he's heard the $107M number for next season, a potential $3M increase from prior reports.
"I've had a couple of people mention the number 107 to me. As you mentioned, it was supposed to be 104 next year, but I'm hearing the number 107 come up. I think there are some people who really think even the year after, where it's temporarily at least in pencil for 113, that that could go even higher."

Only two teams currently have more projected available cap space than the Detroit Red Wings this season: the Chicago Blackhawks and the Columbus Blue Jackets.
There's no denying that the organization is currently in a great spot, with an edge on most of the league.
But with all teams getting $12M more next season, the Wings' edge won't be the same. Although they will still have more space than others, all teams will be in a position to spend money and will be able to make offers to players.
