Detroit Red Wings linked to Stanley Cup winning defenseman in trade talks
With theDetroit Red Wings lacking significant depth on the blueline, Steve Yzerman could tap into the Vegas Golden Knights system for a potential addition in Nic Hague.
The Detroit Red Wings don't have much in the way of talent on the blueline. The majority of NHL talent is veteran depth, and top-four defenseman who are still developing, like Moritz Seider and Simon Edvinsson.
In order to build a full and balanced team, the Red Wings are currently asking about the availability of defenseman Nic Hague.
Hague is a pending RFA at the age of 26, and his last contract paid him $2.29 million AAV. In 68 games this season, he'd scored 12 points (5-7) on the Golden Knights' bottom pair with Zach Whitecloud.
It was reported by The Fourth Period that the Vegas Golden Knights were taking calls on Nic Hague, and according to a recent report, the Red Wings are in on the defenseman.
He could be a cheap RFA to add on a struggling blueline, and with $21 million in cap space, it'd make sense that he'd be a target.
The Golden Knights are pressed against the cap with under $10 million available, and with Hague expecting a pay raise, totaling at $3 million, he could be pushed out as a cap casualty.
Hague would be a great addition on the left, with a frame of 6'6", plays a heavy physical game, and could improve the team's blueline.
Other than Moritz Seider and Simon Edvinsson, they're still on the hunt for a reliable defenseman, and Hague could be a great option for Yzerman.
Hague could be a solid addition for his ability to play on the PK, and his Stanley Cup ring, in addition to his tenure of 250 games in the NHL.
The Knights might want a high-end prospect or a pick for Hague, which could be cause for concern; if so, Yzerman should weigh the options heavily before moving forward.
