Detroit Red Wings set to ink 25-year old goaltender Arvid Holm to NHL contract
Arvid Holm, a 26-year-old Swedish goaltender, has been making carrying Rogle BK in the SHL during the 2024-2025 season, catching the attention of Detroit Red Wings GM Steve Yzerman.
NHL Insider Cam Robinson reports that the Red Wings are planning on signing Holm for the 2025-2026 season.
This wouldn't be Holm's first stint in North America; he previously played in the AHL with the Manitoba Moose and finished his last American season with the ECHL's Utah Grizzlies in 2023-2024 before returning to Sweden.
Holm's performance with Rogle has been excellent, earning him the Honken Trophy as the SHL's top goaltender with a .925 save percentage and a 1.90 GAA over 35 games.
This marks a significant improvement from his earlier AHL stats, where he posted a 2.80 GAA and .897 save percentage across 71 games in three seasons.
After the Colorado Avalanche declined to extend a qualifying offer, Holm entered free agency and signed a three-year deal with Rogle, a decision that paid off as he rebounded impressively.
For a move to Detroit to materialize, Holm's contract would need an NHL out clause, facilitated by the transfer agreement between the NHL and SHL.
If signed, Holm would serve as a backup to
Sebastian Cossa with the Grand Rapids Griffins in the AHL, while
Carter Gylander remains with the ECHL's Toledo Walleye.
It is expected that Detroit will sign 6'5, free agent netminder, Arvid Holm at the conclusion of the season
The 26-year-old won the Honken Trophy as the SHL's top netminder by posting a 0.925 SV% across 35 games for Rögle BK
He was originally drafted by Winnipeg in the 6th round in 2017
This move could allow the Red Wings to part ways with goaltender
Jack Campbell.
Bringing Holm on board would provide Detroit with much-needed depth and in goal.
