Detroit Red Wings sign Florida Panthers Stanley Cup Champion: It was just confirmed in a major announcement
The Detroit Red Wings have a close relationship with a Florida Panthers Stanley Cup Champion, so close that he issued a statement to Motor City fans after winning the Stanley Cup.
This led to plenty of speculation on a potential sneaky acquisition from general manager Steve Yzerman of Tomas Nosek, as he was an unrestricted free agent fresh off of a championship win.
That speculation quickly changed after the Red Wings made several free agency additions, leading to Nosek signing with the Florida Panthers.
Nosek's one-year, $775,000 deal with the Florida Panthers was a significant discount for him and his camp.
Florida Panthers GM Bill Zito also managed to re-signed Brad Marchand, Aaron Ekblad and Sam Bennett, keeping their winning core together.
Nosek tallied up three assists in 16 playoff games, but he and his linemates on the Panthers' fourth line were the sole reason they moved past the Maple Leafs in Game 7.
The Panthers are now left with just $500,000 in cap space remaining with 18 of 23 players on the roster.
Bennett signed for eight years for $64 million; Ekblad received the same length but $48.8 million and Marchand received six years and $31.5 million.
