Ex-Red Wings forward Gustav Nyquist, who once scored 27 goals in a Detroit sweater, has once again found a new home, this time with the Winnipeg Jets.
Many speculated that the Red Wings would reunite with their familiar face in free agency, but a free agency transaction has just confirmed a reunion is off the books.
There was once a time when forward Gustav Nyquist was thought of as a potential building block
for the Detroit Red Wings early on in his career.
He burst onto the scene for the Red Wings as a full-time NHL forward in 2013-14 after having gotten some valuable postseason experience earlier in the spring, and ended up with 28 goals.
He followed that up with 27 goals the following year, but his scoring stats began to dwindle. He would then be traded to the San Jose Sharks at the 2019 Trade Deadline, and later signed with the Columbus Blue Jackets.
He's since played for the Minnesota Wild and Nashville Predators, and has now found himself his latest NHL home. He's signed a 1-year deal with the Winnipeg Jets, who won the President's Trophy as the NHL's best team this year.
He'll be looking to prove that he can still play at a high level in the NHL after a disappointing year that was split between the Predators and Wild, the latter of which was his 2nd stint with the team.
Gustav Nyquist, signed 1x$3.3M by WPG, is a veteran playmaking winger who had a very unpleasant year where basically everything went wrong - despite his usual decent passing metrics he had 3 goals and 5 primary assists at 5v5 all year, including 0 with MIN.
Nyquist, whom the Red Wings selected with the 121st pick in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft, has 531 points (209G, 322A) in 863 career NHL games with the Red Wings, Sharks, Blue Jackets, Wild, and Predators.
