A Detroit Red Wings trade target has found himself back on the chop block just a few weeks after Steve Yzerman reportedly discussed trades over the phone with the New Jersey Devils, and there's a perfect match.

In July, RG.org revealed that the Detroit Red Wings completed a trade call with the New Jersey Devils regarding the availability of Dougie Hamilton, and also named the Toronto Maple Leafs as a team who's inquired.
«The Stars, Red Wings, and Mammoth have also been pushing hard to acquire a right-shot defenseman that can bolster their offense and improve their power play, so they make a ton of sense.»

An NHL executive source also revealed to RG.Org that there are several factors that need consideration before biting on the Devils defenseman.
«Look, things as we know can change really fast in the NHL and with trade talks; all it takes is one call and voila! But there are a few things to consider here when it comes to Hamilton,» the source pointed out.

"First is how many of those teams are willing to and can take on his $9 million cap hit? The second thing is that the Devils aren't out there shopping him right now, and by no means are they in a hurry to trade him. Don't forget, Jonathan Kovacevic is coming off of knee surgery, and as far as I know, he's probably not coming back until late November/early December.

So, they're now already down a veteran D-man on the right side. Yeah, they have guys coming and when healthy, there's probably not enough room for everyone, so obviously, teams will inquire, but this is the situation right now."

However, after some quiet time without Hamilton's name swirling around, Bleacher Report revealed the 32-year-old defenseman as a candidate on the trade block.

Dougie Hamilton trade could reflect on if Erik Karlsson gets dealt by Pittsburgh

James Nichols of New Jersey Hockey Now suggested that a Hamilton trade may depend on other dominos to fall first on the trade market, including Pittsburgh Penguins' Erik Karlsson and Calgary's Rasmus Andersson.
Both have been linked to the Red Wings and fit their current need for a top-end right-shot defenseman.
