However, there have been many reported issues with the building of the arena in Italy, which could complicate things going forward.
Massive Issues In The Building Of The Arena In Milan Ahead Of The Olympics
After it was confirmed that the ice would be smaller than NHL rinks, reports announced that the arena could possibly not even be done in time for the tournament.
"Looks like it's going to be smaller than NHL rink standards, by probably three or four feet. I don't understand how that happened."
The chief games operations officer for Milan-Cortina, Andrea Francisi, even revealed there was no plan B in place, highlighting the urgency in Italy:
"There is no Plan B. So necessarily we have to be able to organize the competition in an impeccable manner at Santagiulia."
"There are daily updates in the sense that our team is there working every day."
Although it would be surprising to see, the hockey tournament of the Olympics could end up delayed, but the most likely scenario, in my opinion, would be to see the players compete in another arena already built in Italy.
NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly shared some of his own words, causing more concern for the already worrisome situation.
If the games are delayed, the NHL will be canceling the whole thing, as they already organized the regular calendar in consequence and can't change it again.
It will be interesting to see how this situation will unfold.
