NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman chimed in on a potential trade for the Red Wings, which could see a good return for forward Jonatan Berggren.

While Jonatan Berggren found a way to stay relevant in the defeat of the St. Louis Blues, he may have found himself as a trade chip after all is said and done.
Despite his best efforts to regain a foothold in the lineup, he's been utilized as a depth option in the absence of players like Patrick Kane, who are the true foundation of the team.
He's scored 4 points (2-2) in the last 5 games, and instead of earning a spot in the lineup, he could be the next piece Steve Yzerman moves, according to NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman.
The 32 Thoughts Podcast host believes that the Red Wings are exploring trade options for multiple players, and Jonatan Berggren could be one player who could use a fresh start in the NHL.
"That's another team that could move one at some point. Detroit has Erik Gustafsson in the AHL, and some forwards who might need a change of scenery because their runway is shortening in Motown."

Berggren could be the next to be moved, along with players like J.T. Compher and Andrew Copp, as the team seeks to get younger.

The Detroit Red Wings and Jonatan Berggren: Destined to Part Ways?

Berggren is one player who doesn't have a no-trade clause or no-movement clause attached to his contract, unlike Andrew Copp or JT Compher.
That makes moving him considerably easier for the Red Wings and, as a future RFA whose one-year $1.825 million deal is expiring at the end of the season, makes him a target for other NHL teams.
One place the Red Wings could look is another Original Six team with issues, as they want to find a new home for forward Brennan Othmann, resulting in a player swap.
Othmann has played only 26 games in the NHL and has a +6 and 51 hits to his name and could find a fresh start in Detroit, like he's needed.
At even strength, he has a career on-ice save percentage of 94.2, and he's boasting a solid 10.5 on-ice shooting percentage.

While the risk would be manageable, a return on investment wouldn't be far off if he turns into a reliable two-way forward or a defensive forward for the team.
