Detroit Red Wings 2025 RFA Contracts: Berggren, Soderblom, Johansson Projections
The Detroit Red Wings are better positioned this offseason for their restricted free agents (RFAs) than last summer, and general manager Steve Yzerman is set to dish out some serious cash in extensions.
After a one-year, $825,000 deal, Berggren's 24 points in 75 bottom-six games don't scream a big raise. Comparable to
Jesper Boqvist's two-year, $1.5 million AAV deal, a similar contract fits under the $95.5 million cap.
Arbitration will loom if he seeks another one-year deal.
Projection: Two years, $1.5 million AAV.
With 19 points in 47 career games, a prove-it deal is likely. He may deserve a $1.7-$2.7 million AAV, but Detroit's arbitration leverage signals to a one-year, $1.15 million AAV deal, a real 'prove it' opportunity if Soderblom earns a roster spot out of training camp next season.
Johansson, tallied nine points in 61 games as a third-pairing defenseman, limiting his value.
Detroit holds the edge in negotiations. Projection: Two years, $1.2 million AAV.
These deals leave $19.17 million in cap space for 2025-26, giving Detroit flexibility to address roster needs through trades or free agency, as Steve Yzerman stated he is prepared to do.
