A recent report has confirmed that former Detroit Red Wings general manager Ken Holland is the lead candidate to land the New York Islanders vacant general manager job, in a surprising turn of events.

According to New York Islanders senior writer of The Athletic, Arthur Staple, Ken Holland is expected to be announced as the next general manager of the organization following Lou Lamoriello's firing on April 22nd.
If the report from the trusted insider comes to fruition, it's certainly a controversial decision in the eyes of two specific franchises who have witnessed Holland's antics, the Detroit Red Wings and the Edmonton Oilers.
Holland is an accomplished Hall of Famer but has failed to be an active and beneficial NHL general manager in nearly a decade's time.
The only evident upgrade in terms of Holland stepping in for Lou Lamoriello would be age, as the former Red Wings GM is 69-years old, Lamoriello, who was just fired, is 82.
On Monday, the Islanders won the draft lottery in shocking fashion for the first time since 2009, granting them for first overall selection at this summers June 27th draft.
It's Ken Holland or a list of less-experienced people who would need a veteran GM under them.

That doesn't exactly scream out a pressing need to name a POHOP right away, but Collins, Malkin and Ledecky have been going through this process intensely for the last two weeks (and, let's be real here, likely before that, even though Lamoriello was on the job) so perhaps they've learned enough to jump at an opportunity now.

With an incredible depth of goaltender Ilya Sorokin, Matthew Barzal, Bo Horvat, Noah Dobson and others, the clubs owners putting their full trust into Ken Holland would certainly be an interesting decision.
