Red Wings' 2017 Draft Pick Gustav Lindström Signs Five-Year Deal in Sweden
Swedish team Djurgården has announced the signing of Gustav Lindström to a five-year contract, marking the end of his time in North America.
In an official press release, the team's general manager expressed high hopes for the 25-year-old:
«Gustav is a very exciting player with experience in international hockey at all levels. He's still in a great phase of his career, and we believe he's someone we can build around for the long term. We're thrilled that Gustav has finally found his home with his beloved Djurgården.
He has all the right qualities and can definitely unlock more of his offensive potential. We see him becoming a central figure on our team for many years.»
For Lindström, a native of Sweden, signing with Djurgården was a dream come true. In the same statement, the player shared his excitement:
«I'm so happy and proud to have signed with Djurgården! I remember watching games at Hovet with my friends when I was younger. Sometimes, we'd just look at each other and say, 'Imagine playing here.'
Now that day has come. It's going to be so much fun, and I'm really looking forward to next season with all of you. Until then, I wish you a fantastic summer, and I'll see you at Hovet this fall!»
The defenseman spent three seasons with the Red Wings and the Griffins before being sent to the Montreal Canadiens in the
Jeff Petry trade back in 2023.
In 42 games with the Laval Rocket this season, Lindström scored 11 points, including 4 goals. He added 1 goal and 1 assist in 13 playoff games.
